LAVACA COUNTY, Texas - On December 10, 2023, at 8:08 p.m. the DPS worked a two-vehicle triple fatal crash on Alt US 90 E on the Navidad River bridge in Lavaca County. A total of three people died. Authorities said a 2022 white Honda Accord was going eastbound on US 90A while a 2018 Ford Explorer was going westbound on US 90A. The Honda crossed the center line on the Navidad River Bridge and hit the Ford Explorer. The Ford Explorer spun into the eastbound lane, hit the guardrail and went up in flames. The driver of the Honda was identified as Marieli Sanchez, 25, from Victoria. The driver of the Ford Explorer was identified as David Jones and the passenger in the Ford Explorer was identified as Carla Jones, both age 62. The couple was from Hallettsville.Â
The DPS said two subsequent minor crashes after the tripe fatal crash occurred and the three people involved in those incidents were not hurt.

Unit #1 was traveling eastbound on US 90A.
Unit #2 was traveling westbound on US 90A.
The driver of Unit #1 for reasons still under investigation, failed to drive in a single and crossed the center line on the Navidad River Bridge.
Unit #1 then struck Unit #2, causing front distributed damage to Unit #1 and front left damage to Unit #2.
After the initial impact, Unit #2 spun back into the eastbound lane and struct the eastbound guardrail, causing left panel damage to Unit #1.
Unit #1 came to rest against the eastbound guardrail, facing west.
Unit #2 came to rest against the westbound guardrail, facing west.
After the crash, Unit #2 became fully engulfed.
Unit #1 was a 2022 White Honda Accord.
Unit #2 was a 2018 Ford Explorer.
The driver of Unit 1 was Marieli Sanchez, 25-year-old from Victoria and the driver of Unit 2 was David Jones, with passenger Carla Jones in the Unit as well, both 62 years old and from Hallettsville.Â
All three people were declared deceased at the scene by Judge Steven Greenwell.Â
This fatal crash investigation is still ongoing.Â
